Employment

If a student plans to pursue the workforce right after high school, their guidance counselor will continue to develop a plan to best support them. This can include career exploration based on interests, skills and values; resume consultation; and logistical planning. Guidance counselors encourage students to utilize several websites to help with career exploration.

  • Naviance has various activities, such as the Career Interest Profiler, a questionnaire that determines careers of good fit for students. Naviance has Road Trip Nation, a compilation of people from various career fields speaking about their jobs.
  • Mass Hire is a website for career information, such as wages, job outlook, skills required for each occupation, amongst other information. There is also a Reality Check, to see how much one’s monthly income should be in order to afford the lifestyle one would like to live.
  • O*Net is another career exploration website that guidance counselors encourage students to utilize.

Along with visiting different websites that support career exploration, to best prepare students for the workforce after high school we encourage the following:

  • Talk to people in the field that interests the student.
  • Job shadow someone in the field of interest to see what a day in the life of someone in that occupation is like.
  • Sign-up for an internship and/or Senior Project. These are two ways to network in the field of interest and allow for students to know if the field they have been interested in is what they expected it to be.
  • Volunteer your time to get valuable experiences, learn new skills, and give back to your community.
  • Try different clubs/activities that are offered at Franklin High School.

We encourage all students to keep their guidance counselor updated on all their future plans.
