September 2019
On behalf of the FHS PCC Board Members, welcome to the 2019-20 school year.  This is sure to be an exciting year and we would like to let you know a little about what we do and encourage you to get involved and participate in your child’s school experience.

Last year, the PCC invited representatives from all areas of the school to participate in our meetings. We heard from the Music and Art Departments and listened to Ms. Plouffe and Ms. Tebbetts talk about their respective departments and all that is offered to our students.    Athletic Director, Tom Angelo provided an update on all the team sport opportunities available and the success of Franklin athletics. Ron Taylor, mathematics department head, provided an overview of the new math curriculum and John Menard, English department head presented on what is being taught in the English department.  We engaged representatives from the School Committee to provide an overview of their responsibilities and role in the community In May, Dr. Sara Ahern, our superintendent, responded to our request to come to our last meeting of the year and share her thoughts on school start times, homework policy and the overall budget. We provided snacks for the teachers’ first Wednesday staff meeting of the school year, a continental breakfast for teachers the morning after Curriculum Night and Parent Conferences. In May, we provided the teachers and staff with a week of appreciation activities. We helped with Picture Day in September and encouraged FHS families to sign up for Stop and Shop rewards, which benefit our students  directly. These events were so successful thanks to the help and support of so many FHS parents!
Did you know, a member of the Board meets monthly with other representatives of the various PCCs in Franklin and the superintendent, to share information about the schools and receive updates about the FPS district?

The PCC meets 5x per school year. These meetings are truly a communication tool for parents to hear about important topics regarding the school and to ask questions and get answers that their teenager may not be able to give them. FHS PCC meetings provide an open forum for discussion about the issues faced in the high school.  The topic for our September 23th meeting is listed above and you should expect to receive an update on the upcoming meeting topics prior to the meeting dates. Principal Paul Peri and Deputy Principal Bill Klements are present at every meeting to provide updates and answer any questions you may have.  Also, if you have a speaker or topic you would like addressed please let us know.

This year, families are invited to make a direct donation to the FHS PCC.  These funds will be spent on activities that benefit students and teachers, such as: Teacher/Staff Appreciations, refreshments at Senior Awards Night and Senior Breakfast and FEF grant donations, to name a few important activities.  Checks should be made out to the FHS PCC and sent in to the main office with your student, in an envelope labeled FHS PCC, or mailed to FHS PCC c/o 56 Hilltop Road, Franklin, MA 02038.  Please note that donations are tax deductible, as we are a 501c3 organization.
There are opportunities to volunteer as well and we would love some help with the following:
Food Pantry Collection in April
Teacher/Staff Appreciation in May
Senior Breakfast and Senior Awards Night-during senior week at the end of the school year
Please consider becoming involved in the many activities that the PCC supports.  With many hands, we can accomplish almost anything.
