Approval of Student Handbooks

In each school building, the Principal, in collaboration with the School Council, shall annually prepare and distribute to each student a student handbook setting forth the rules and guidelines pertaining to conduct of students and other information important to students and parents as determined by the Principal and School Council.  The student handbook shall include an age-appropriate summary of the student-related sections of the bullying prevention and intervention plan required by Massachusetts General Laws Section 37O and other rules as required by law. The School Council shall review the student handbook each spring to consider changes in disciplinary policy to take effect in September of the following school year, but may consider policy changes at any time. The annual review shall cover all areas of student conduct, including but not limited to those outlined in this section.  The Superintendent shall review and approve each handbook.

The School Committee reserves the right to review the handbooks and where, in the Committee’s judgment, they are inconsistent with existing policies, the administration will be informed and take appropriate action to address said inconsistency.
