The RemDawg Bark
October Edition
Back to School Night: Thursday, October 13
At 6:30pm, we will all gather in the RMS Cafeteria for a brief introduction and opening remarks. From there, parents/guardians will attend "classes" to meet the teachers and learn more about each subject for the year. Prior to the evening event, students will bring a copy of their schedule home for parents/guardians to follow that night.

Chromebook Insurance
All Franklin Public School middle and high school students will have a Chromebook assigned to them.
Parents/Guardians of seventh and eighth grade students will need to register the Chromebooks as soon as possible using this link. Once the device is registered, the Chromebook will be activated for another year of school. If the Chromebook registration is not filled out, the Chromebook will be disabled on August 27th and will only be reactivated once the device has been successfully registered (within 24 hours). The devices (and chargers) should be brought to school daily.
Sixth grade and new students to RMS will receive a Chromebook and charger on the first day of school. These devices will be active and families will have the first week of school to register the Chromebooks.
During the registration process you will have the opportunity to purchase OPTIONAL Chromebook insurance for the year. The Franklin Public Schools Chromebook optional insurance program provides coverage against accidental damage (drops, spills, etc.). There is no deductible and no limit to the number of claims that can be made for a Chromebook. Insurance can be purchased only via online payment and only during the open enrollment window, beginning now through October 15, 2022. This form must be completed for each device your child/children may have.
Coverage Option - The cost for coverage is $45 per year, per device with lower rates for those who qualify for free/reduced meals. Coverage includes Accidental Damage from cracked screens and liquid spills, liquid submersion, fire, flood damage, vandalism, natural disasters, and power surge due to lightning.
NOT COVERED: Intentional damage, case carvings, broken chargers, will not be covered. Additionally, if a device is lost or stolen (as determined by our insurance provider), families may be responsible for the total cost of the device. Please note that full loss due to theft is only covered when accompanied by a police report.
Note: While the insurance is OPTIONAL, those choosing NOT to insure devices will be responsible for the full replacement cost of $250.00 should an accident or loss occur. Full replacement cost will be the only option available and partial costs to repair a damaged Chromebook will not be considered regardless of the damage as we do not repair these devices in-house.
RMS School Council
As the year is getting underway, we will be re-establishing the School Council at Remington Middle School. This is an advisory group that meets monthly with the school's administrative team. The Council provides invaluable feedback about the school's short and long-term goals and assists with reviewing the school's handbook.
If you are interested in joining RMS School Council, please complete this form and if you have any questions, please reach out for clarification.
Update from the Nurse's Office: Screenings
Health screenings are scheduled to begin in October! These screenings are essential tools in the early detection of barriers that could interfere with your student's education.
Based on state requirements, the screenings are performed as outlined below:
Vision: Kindergarten through Grade 7
Hearing: Kindergarten through Grade 3 & Grade 7
BMI: Grades 1, 4, & 7
If your student does not pass a screening here in school, a referral letter will be sent home and you are encouraged to follow up with your student's physician.
Parents and guardians may opt out of any screening. Please notify the Health Office via email if you would prefer that your student not participate in health screenings.
Advisory Focus and Parent Follow Up
In an effort to support this work, we recommend using the following discussion questions or sentence starters with your students:
What are some of the goals you are setting for yourself this year?
How will you know if you are successful?
What do you see as barriers/roadblocks to meeting these goals?
A goal I met was...
I was successful because...
A goal I didn't meet was...
I wish I had...
