School Council

About Us

All public elementary schools in the state of Massachusetts are required to have a School Council consisting of the principal, parents, teachers and non-school members. The principal serves as one of the co-chairs of the council. At the first meeting of the year, the other co-chair is selected. The following is taken from the Massachusetts General Laws: Chapter 71, Section 59C and describes what the responsibilities of the council:

"The school council, including the school principal, shall meet regularly and shall assist in the identification of the educational needs of the students attending the school, make recommendations to the principal for the development, implementation and assessment of the curriculum accommodation plan required pursuant to section 38Q1/2, shall assist in the review of the annual school budget and in the formulation of a school improvement plan, as provided below."

In addition to the above, it is our hope that this council will spend time soliciting feedback from families regarding our school handbook and make recommendations for revisions for the next school year. Also, the council will work to engage families by coordinating and hosting a series of evening information sessions.
