Latin National Honor Society / Classics Club

Description:

The LNHS is open by application to current students of Latin in Grades 10-12. The purpose of the society is to recognize outstanding scholarship and leadership among students of the Latin language at Franklin High School and to promote the continuing study of Latin language and culture.  LNHS members engage in service projects and in activities where they can learn about Latin language and Roman culture beyond the classroom curriculum.  LNHS members are also encouraged to attend trips and events sponsored by the Classics Club.

The Classics Club is open to all FHS students who are interested in the ancient Latin and Greek world and the influence of ancient culture on modern life.   If you are interested in history, art, mythology, language, or literature, Classics Club has something for you!  Highlights of the club’s past activities include building a catapult for a state-wide competition, Certamen competition (a team-based quiz game that tests your knowledge of Latin and Roman culture and history), and a statewide weekend convention every spring with a variety of activities and contests.  Classics Club members may also participate in service projects organized by the Latin National Honor Society, and qualified students are encouraged to formally join both the Club and the LNHS
